What is "The Strap"? Watch Parts

watch_strap.jpg

Welcome to part 6 of our Watch Component Guides! If you're here, you're probably a new guy in the industry, or want some detailed information about watch straps. Before the details, let's look at what the term "Watch Strap" means.

Definition: "Watch Strap" is the part of the watch that secures the watch on your wrist, also known as "Watch Band" or "Watch Belt", or "Bracelet" if it's metal. A watch has its "Case", which is the central round part where everything is operating at, and the "Straps" to keep it on your wrist.

If the definition was not clear, or if you're looking for a visual cue to completely understand what a strap is, the strap of the watch is highlighted in red and is the only red thing in the picture above.

Why the Strap Matters

When you think about it, the strap of a watch has the most influence on the appearance, because it has the most volume, a little color change will be extremely visible and will give a totally different vibe, even if it's just a color tone change, like from dark gray to light gray. And if you switch from, let's say, a leather to a NATO strap, the difference is not only the color but also the texture, and it's incredibly effective on the appearance. Besides the looks, changing to a different type of strap will affect the comfort level of the watch.

Customizing Your Watch Easily

Straps can make it look like you bought a new watch, as that's the first part that strikes the eye when people look at your watch. If you want an economical way to be versatile while not compromising your style, buy a few straps, and you won't need to buy a new watch for every occasion.
